Looking back at past achievements, the road to success with the Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has come a long way. Established in 1951, it started as a platform to advance and protect the various local companies' commercial interests in Sarawak then.
Over time, SCCI has evolved through great developments as it held onto important roles being the captains of the industry. Its objective today remains as it continues to promote commerce and industry within the melting pot of business in the state.
The chamber has established itself as the communication channel and focal point for discussion and collaboration between the Malaysian government, Sarawak government, government agencies, business associations and other chambers of commerce and industries.
In the 1990s, SCCI expanded to Sibu, Bintulu and Miri to extend the chamber's goals and objectives to reach a wider community. With the expansion, this became the driving force for the chamber to create vast opportunities for its members.
To date, SCCI has engaged with the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI), and the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asian Growth AREA (BIMP-EAGA) business council. This simultaneously created a bigger network system of business opportunities amongst SMEs and larger companies.
The chamber also maintained a good rapport with the consulate representatives in the state such as the Consulate General of China, Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam. These relationships encourage the integration and harmonisation of the economy in the region. Through this practice, the chamber can further enhance the bilateral economic cooperation for growth and mutual benefits.
As SCCI continues to advocate for the growth of the local business community, the chamber constantly welcomes businesses and companies to tap into the database and benefits of the Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
