Sarawak State Entrepreneur of the Year Awards 2016 and Sarawak State Outstanding Entrepreneur of the Year 2016
The Sarawak State Entrepreneur of the Year Awards (“EOYS”) 2016 together with the Sarawak State Outstanding Entrepreneur of the Year 2016 will be presented at the Sarawak Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s (“SCCI”) 65th Annual Dinner on Friday, 25 November 2016 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (“BCCK”). This year, the dinner will be graced by Yang Berhormat Datuk Amar Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg.
Sarawak State Entrepreneur of the Year Awards
Organised by the Ministry of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development, Trade and Investment Sarawak in association with SCCI and Ernst & Young, it was first launched in 2004 and is a prestigious Awards Program held annually to honour and acknowledge exceptional entrepreneurial talent and leadership. Up to last year, over 40 entrepreneurs from all over Sarawak have been given this recognition.
The EOYS aims to:
- Recognise the outstanding entrepreneurs in business in Sarawak, i.e. the prime movers that drive the State’s path towards economic growth and Vision 2020; and
- Recognise the success of up and coming entrepreneurs, who through their ingenuity, ideas, resourcefulness, commitment and hard work, have built their businesses which contributed to the growth of our State’s economy.
Emphasis will primarily be on the individual’s attributes over the Company’s and in general, cover amongst others, demonstration of outstanding leadership – vision, dedication as well as intelligent risk taking; company milestones with consideration of industry obstacles and each entrepreneur’s ability to overcome adversity; corporate culture, values and incentives; financial performance and growth record; and social responsibilities, reputation and contribution to the community that demonstrate the characteristics of a good model corporate citizen.
For the recipients of this award, EOYS is an opportunity to network with business peers as well as have access to valuable media coverage, raising personal and company profile. More importantly, be recognised for the success.
In the past, the EOYS Adjudicating Committee have nominated recipients of the EOYS Awards to represent Sarawak state at the Malaysia Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year (“EOY”) Awards. Nominated, the entrant has access to a range of events to help the entrant’s company achieve its potential as well as the opportunity to join a group of illustrious alumni. Some of the alumni (and country winners) such as YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr) Francis Yeoh, YBhg Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr Lim Kok Wing and Datuk Tan Say Jim have also gone on to represent Malaysia in the global Ernst & Young EOY Awards in Monte Carlo.

- Rosdin Bin Rosli (Master Entrepreneur) Representing Dewan Usahawan Bumiputera Sarawak
- Kenny Sia Tze Foo (Emerging Entrepreneur)
Sarawak State Outstanding Entrepreneurship of the Year 2016
Also organised by the Ministry of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development, Trade and Investment Sarawak in association with SCCI and Ernst & Young, the Sarawak State Outstanding Entrepreneurship Award was first launched in 2014. This award aims to recognise and celebrate past recipients of the annual EOYS award whose entrepreneurial spirits and achievements have continued to grow, inspire and make a difference to the community.
